High ACT scores increase the odds of acceptance to selective universities, and these institutions produce graduates with strong employment prospects. According to a recent salary study published in the Wall Street Journal, alumni of the most highly ranked universities can make excellent salaries right out of school. The median starting compensation for a graduate of the California Institute of Technology, for example, is $75,500 per year, and new graduates of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology do nearly as well at $72,200 annually. Other schools that produce lucrative mean starting salaries include Princeton ($66,500 per year), Harvard ($63,400), Carnegie Mellon ($61,800), and the University of Pennsylvania ($60,900). Furthermore, these starting wages increase substantially by the middle career years. About 75% of mid-career Princeton and CalTech alumni earn at least $100,000 annually, and the median yearly mid-career salaries for graduates of Dartmouth, Princeton, and Yale are between $126,000 and $134,000. The investment of time and money in high-quality ACT prep is a small price to pay for these future rewards.
